The Race Rules

1.0        Introduction

 

1.1              An 8-round series for National licence holders;

1.2       The Overall ‘Series’,Under 23, Masters, and Women’sclassification winners will be those riders who accumulate the most points over the course of the competition;

1.3              Points will be awarded to the first fifteen place-getters each round as follows;

25, 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 point.

1.4       Separate points will be awarded to the first six women place-getters each round as follows;

            10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1 point.

1.5                   In the event of two or more riders/teams equal on points, the leader or winner of the respective competition shall be the rider/team with the highest placed finish in the latest round;

 

2.0       Leader Jerseys

 

2.1       The white 'Sponsors' Leader Jersey shall be worn by the series leader at each round;

2.2       The red ‘Sponsors’ Leader Jersey shall be worn by the Under 23 series leader at each round;

2.3              The black ‘Sponsors’ Leader Jersey shall be worn by the Masters series leader at each round;

2.4              The red & black polka-dot ‘Sponsors’ Leader Jersey shall be worn by the women’s series leader each round;

2.5              The Under 23 classification is open to any rider who is the holder of either an Under 23 or Under 19 category licence, male or female.  Under 23 category women will be considered those turning 22 years in 2008, and younger;

2.6              The Masters classification is open to any rider who is the holder of a Masters One category licence or above, male or female;

2.7              In the event of a rider leading both the series and U23 classifications, or both the series and Masters classifications, the rider shall wear the white 'Sponsors' Leader Jersey.  The U23 red 'Sponsors' Leader Jersey shall then be worn by the rider lying second in the U23 classification, or the Mastersblack ‘Sponsors’ Leader Jersey shall then be worn by the rider lying second in the Masters classification;

2.8              Should the series leader not be competing in a particular round, the white 'Sponsors' Leader Jersey shall be worn by the next highest placed rider;

2.9              Should the U23 classification leader not be riding in a particular round, the U23 red 'Sponsors' Leader Jersey shall be worn by the next highest placed U23 rider;

2.10          Should the Masters classification leader not be riding in a particular round, the Masters black ‘Sponsors’ Leader Jersey shall be worn by next highest placed Masters rider;

2.11          Should the Women’s classification leader not be riding in a particular round, the Women’s red & black polka dot Leader Jersey shall be worn by the next highest placed woman rider.

 

3.0      Teams

 

3.1       A team may enter a minimum of 5, and a maximum of 12 riders per round to be eligible for the 'Sponsors' team prize;

3.2       Should 12 riders be entered, 4 riders must be women;

3.3       All team members shall wear their distinctive team apparel while racing and during the prize presentations (unless they are wearing a Leader Jersey).  Failure to do so will result in the loss of points in either or both the individual and team classifications;

3.4       No rider limit applies to those ridersrepresentingtheir clubsnot entered in the teams’ classification;

3.5       A team entered in the team classification may use no more than 15 riders over the course of the series. A rider may only compete for one team only throughout the entire series;

3.6       Any team rider not selected as part of their team for a particular round, will not be eligible to compete in that round;

3.7       Any team or club is permitted to provide their own service vehicle at each round providing they field a minimum of 5 of its team riders;

3.8       The service vehicle driver must attend a pre-race briefing and adhere to the service vehicle guidelines;

3.9       Each team service vehicle must contain two persons. Failure to do so may result in the loss of points in the team classification.

3.10     The first 3 riders from a team to finish at each round will be awarded the 'Sponsors' team prize;

3.11     Points will be awarded to teams at each round as follows;

- 12, 8, 4, points for the first 3 placed teams;

- 6, 4, 2 bonus points for the first 3 individual place-getters;

- 2 bonus points to any team that finishes with 5 or more riders;

- 1 bonus point for any team rider finishing 4th - 10th;

3.12     The ‘Series’ team classification winner will be the team accumulating the most points over the course of the competition.

4.0                   Categories

 

4.1       The series is open to all Category riders;

4.2       Other than Category One riders and Category One registered teams, all other riders and teams are eligible for Category Two prizes.

 

5.0       Attire

 

5.1              As per Item 3.3, any rider competing as a member of a team must wear their team apparel;

5.2              Any rider competing as an individual may wear only sponsored clothing as endorsed on their licence, or wear their club clothing;

5.3              Failure to wear correct attire will result in the rider being refused a start.  

 

6.0              Entry Fees

 

6.1       A Team Registration Form can be faxed to the Series’ Co-ordinator at (03) 942-8533.  The form is to be faxed by the 14th of February 2008to qualify for the $400.00 early-bird payment.

6.2              $30.00 per rider per round;

6.3              Also $75.00 per team per round, or $600.00 per team per series if not paid prior to the 14th February 2008;

6.4              $40.00 per rider for late entry;

6.5              Riders must enter via the Race Registration Line (0832 43615) before Thursday 10pm prior to the weekend's event.  Teams are advised to bulk register for each round by faxing its confirmation to the Series’ Co-ordinator.  The name of the Team Manager is to be included; 

6.6              Any rider entering after Thursday 10pm will pay the late entry fee;

6.7              Any rider entering and not starting the event will still be liable to pay their entry fee.  All entry fees are non-refundable;

6.8              All entry fees, whether Individual or Team must be paid on race day.  The latter applies to those teams that have not paid the early-bird fee.

 

7.0              Prize-giving

 

7.1       Any rider presenting themselves for prize-giving will wear their respective team or racing apparel.  Failure to do so will result in the loss of points in the overall individual classification, team classification, or both;

7.2       Failure to attend prize-giving will result in forfeiture of prize money, and sanctions will be applied;

7.3       Prize money will be paid either directly into the nominated bank account of the team [as per the Team Registration Form], or non-team riders to their bank account or by cheque/cash on the day of the event where possible;

7.4       Prize monies will be awarded as per the Prize-List displayed, unless special prizes exist.

 

8.0              General

8.1       Competition will be conducted under Cycling New Zealand road racing rules;

8.2       The rider understands that competing in the event involves cycling on public roads used by other people and traffic and is aware of the hazards involved. The hazards include but are not limited to: condition of competitor’s equipment, road surfaces, vehicle traffic, actions of competitors, spectators, organiser’s personnel, weather conditions, hypothermia and heat exhaustion. In the rider’s judgment he/she has sufficient competence and experience to participate safely;

8.3              The rider will follow the course set out and abide by the road rules at all times;

8.4              The rider will wear their designated race number;

8.5              The rider will follow the instructions given to him/her by race officials. Failure to do so may lead to him/her being eliminated from the event.

8.6              The rider acknowledges that the organisers reserve the right to alter the advertised course or start time if conditions warrant.

8.7              The rider consents to receive any medical treatment that may be deemed necessary in the event of injury, accident or illness during the event, and allow that information to be passed to race organisers.

8.8              The rider authorises the use of his/her name, voice and picture and any information provided by him/her on the entry form to be used without payment in any broadcast, telecast, promotion or advertising, and he/she also agrees that the information he/she has provided may be used by the organiser for the purpose of promoting future or other events, for the promotion of race sponsors products and services.
