Relativism, does it exist?

Only in art, music, design and fashion and how the world occurs for you

The real red bus exists for us all, and this truth was reinforced to me with the tragic death of my father in law who was killed after not seeing a 4x4 moving at 100kph.

Things are the truth or not. God exists or not,... it’s like saying I don't believe in food and what it can do for us, sure the taste is relative and subjective but not the function or the form. Air is real even though we couldn’t prove its existence for many millions of years...

... but then again some of us still believe the Moon Landing 40 years ago was not real J

Why good things happen to bad people

Yip that’s right I have it the right way round.... interesting how many people have a view of the way world should be that makes only sense one way, but could not possibly be the other way as well and this is one of those statements that I want to turn on its end....

Karma, I hear many people saying “nasty people they’ll reap their karma”, well if that’s true then why are there sooo many happy nasty people before we even explore other issue of just how nasty do we have to be to reap this thing called bad karma?

What a load of illogical rubbish, might make us feel good when we have been ripped off or aggrieved but it makes no logical sense. Here is how...

The world has a set of rules  for everything that most legitimate scientists agree exist, rules like gravity, laws of physics or of natural selection and chemistry. We can manipulate some these laws, like the law of gravity with the science of flying, but we cannot change and / or eradicate these laws. Therefore these laws operate automatically and amorally, in other words they don't work for some people and then not others, they may have been intelligently created but they are not capable of intellect. If they did work for some and not others then we’d be living in an uncertain world (something that is sharp for me would be blunt for you ...yeah right!) or a bit like the claimed law of attraction another fancy story to validate our good luck.... (Wow bet that sentence gets some attention... another blog)

This answers the actual question of why Bad things happen to good people, the laws of the universe operate in a certain and constant manner no matter who you are, God created the Universe therefore we could blame him, but then we would have to recognise him and thank him for all the great things that happen to us as well... you can’t have it just one way!

Alan was one such person on this earth, devoting his life to the service of God and the communities he lived, raised a family of seven, sacrificing personal financial gain to secure their future a wonderfully giving person. But the laws of physics demand that if you intersect a moving mass then the inevitable will happen and tragically this happened, and as Christians we live in the peace that he is home with GodJ.

Yeah we all know this as true, but just how many of us actually live this way?...do we catch ourselves saying “its only for a  wee while” “When I do this...” “Once we ...”

... let’s face it they are excuses and they all live in tomorrow and not for today, the lesson myself and Joey  learnt with Alan passing, was "in a moment your life can cease to exist  and there may be no tomorrow!"

If there was anything I admired about Alan and Marian was the way they LIVED their lives, they’ve raised the family they wanted, served the community they way they felt they should, worked in the jobs they felt they were created for and always had time for hobbies and past times.

So when Alan passed as much was there was sadness there was huge celebration and recognition of his life.
7 children all with tertiary degrees, 9 grandchildren (all perfect of course) 2 degrees in maths and chemistry a PHD in Theology, a loving marriage, Pastored 4 communities and ran 10 Keplers (70k mountain runs)

The benefit was a peaceful existence content with life ... can you honestly say that about your life... I hope you can, if not what can you do differently...

Being fresh back from burying my father in Law, whom died suddenly in a cycling accident we as close family and friends also hit head on the realities of life, there were many deep discussions had that I would like to share with you

I’ll delve into each deeper in later blog posts buts here’s the list (Don't’ be surprised if they are not new to you)

1.       No Regrets, be a complete person in everything!

2.       Why good things happen to bad people
(yip I got it the right way)

3.       Does God really call the shots?

4.       Relativism, does it exist it for you?

5.       What not to say to grieving people

The first automobile crash in the United States is said to have occurred in 1896, in New York City, when a car crashed into - surprise, surprise - a bicyclist. Even today, despite the introduction of reflective gear, helmets and lights, cyclists are still very vulnerable, particularly at night. Enter LightLane – a clever concept that uses lasers to project a virtual bike lane on the ground behind and around the cyclist.

Conceived by Alex Tee and Evan Gant from design firm Altitude Inc., LightLane will mount under the seat and project up to 10 feet behind the rider, giving approaching drivers a clear visual guide to ensure they stay well clear of cyclists at night.

A prototype is in development and the designers hope to have a product ready for Interbike in October.

There is this great book shop in Lyttelton  that gives the best service....so what is that great service

1. They know me and took the time to get to know me

2. They actually call me when my magazines arrive

3. They give me a hard time...now I believe this is the one that makes the difference...

Why

When we joke and play around with each other it makes us feel accepted (unless its nasty) ... just like your best friends at school...enjoy the weee video

Here is my day :)

You know sometimes you have to just write a topic and start, and this evening I want to say that since I am a D grade blogger I still find it hard to keep the discipline up.

The lesson I’m  learning is that until it becomes a habit (30 days apparently) you have to continually re-frame or remind yourself why you started doing what you are doing in the first place...so why the frig am I blogging...???

...well I always have an opinion on everything and thought that the discipline of expressing it in the written language would help me arrange and craft my arguments. I wanted to be in communication with people (would love to hear back from you ;-) ) and secretly I wanted to be famous...

There my motive's all out in the open...have a great day and remember to ask why?

Proverbs 25:16 (New International Version)

16 If you find honey, eat just enough--
too much of it, and you will vomit

My interpretation

“Be careful not to become too familiar with people, they may become aware of your faults and get sick of you”

I can hear the tree huggers now accusing me of propagating a philosophy of coldness and hardness... No, not at all, but to remain powerful and able to lead requires that you have peoples respect.

In the neighbourhood where I was raised there was a neighbour called Robbie, his nick name was marmite, Why? Well he was a nice enough sort of chap, but if you spent too much time with him he’d get on your wick! Just like marmite a little is nice but eat too much and you get annoyed with the taste and sensation...

Authenticity and honesty can be achieved but does not require that you bear all your skeletons or talk only about what you are interested in (note to self to not talk cycling with everyone) especially the issues you are still grappling with. Great leaders will admit to their human failings, but only after they have overcome them, or at least have a strategy to manage them

So my advice, be careful not to overwhelm your friends and clients with all your challenges. Listen and chat about their lives as well... have a great week

If my 6 year old daughter has figured it out then maybe it’s time we did as well.

I asked her about something she did by herself that I thought was difficult to do as a 6 year old and she replied “I just asked Mummy, Dad”. It hit me like a truck hitting a cyclist that this a key to success in life ....

Two things I noted

1.       She looked good asking, came across as sharp to ask engaged the respect of the person being asked and more than likely got a great answer.

2.       She learnt something, and this built her confidence and self esteem

So today I am going to ask questions rather than pretend I know everything....
